Technical note
An overview of Ubigi's performance across 6 criteria
How we score
This score is eSIMrat's own, not an average of customer reviews. It covers six criteria we assess ourselves from the catalogue's real coverage, the prices we record, and test purchases and installs. We earn a commission on sales made through our links: it changes neither the score nor the order of our rankings, which stay sorted by price per GB.
The eSIMrat verdict
Ubigi is the eSIM of a real operator, Transatel, part of the NTT group, and it shows in the mechanics: automatic activation on arrival, top-up from the app without reinstalling a profile or needing Wi-Fi, tethering allowed, euro pricing. The price per GB is well placed, especially on large volumes. The weak spot is support: a form and a help centre, no live chat, and reviews describing dropouts that had to be fixed by hand on some destinations.
Good for
- Frequent travellers: one eSIM kept and topped up from trip to trip
- Large volumes: up to 200 GB, plus unlimited
- Anyone paying in euros who wants a fixed price
- Long stays: plans up to 360 days
Less suited if
- You want live chat at any hour (→ Airalo, Saily)
- You need native calls or texts (→ Yesim, Sim Local)
- You want the lowest price per GB on a small plan (→ Esimzon, Roamify)
- You want human support 24/7 with excellent value for money, an eSIM that is simple to install and an easy-to-use app (→ voilà eSIM)
Pros and cons
Pros
- A mobile operator (Transatel, NTT group), not a mere reseller
- Top-up from the app without reinstalling, even with no Wi-Fi or credit left
- Automatic activation on arrival, 6 months to activate
- Tethering allowed, with iPhone, Android and Windows guides
- Euro pricing, up to 200 GB and 360 days
Cons
- Support through a form, no live chat shown
- Some reviews describe dropouts that had to be fixed by hand on some destinations
- Data only: no calls or texts
- No 5G on some plans, stated plan by plan

How to install your eSIM with Ubigi
Buy your plan
Download the Ubigi app (iOS or Android) or order on cellulardata.ubigi.com: plans are bought and topped up from the app.
Pick your destination
Choose your destination and your data plan.
Scan the QR code
Pay and scan the QR code to install the eSIM.
Get connected
Turn the connection on when you land. That's it.
If something goes wrong
Check that your phone is eSIM-compatible and unlocked, then install from the Ubigi app or by QR code over a stable Wi-Fi connection. Ubigi's help centre has step-by-step guides and video tutorials; if it stalls, the contact form sends your request to support.
Turn Airplane mode on and off again. Check that the eSIM from Ubigi is selected for mobile data in your settings. Turn data roaming on. Restart the phone. If nothing changes, switch network selection to manual and pick another operator.
Look at per-app usage in your phone's settings to spot the hungry apps. Turn off automatic updates and high-resolution video playback. Your remaining data shows in your Ubigi account, or in its app when there is one.
Open the Ubigi app: the purchased eSIM installs from there without a QR code. If you ordered on the site, check your spam folder, then use the help centre form for a resend.

Frequently asked questions
For a week in Europe with typical use (maps, messaging, social media), 3 to 5 GB is enough. At Ubigi, 3 GB valid 30 days costs €4.00 in France and €5.00 in Spain, 10 GB valid 30 days €10.00 and €12.00 (esimrat catalogue prices, in euros). For streaming or tethering, take the 10 GB.
Yes. Ubigi allows tethering and states it on every plan page; its help centre publishes guides for iPhone, Android and Windows.
An eSIM works on most smartphones released after 2019: iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later. Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. Our eSIM-compatible phones page lists the models.
Yes. Most recent smartphones handle a physical SIM (calls, texts, your number) and an eSIM from Ubigi (mobile data) side by side. You keep your usual number and use the eSIM for the Internet.
The case of a plan bought and not used has its own entry in Ubigi's help centre FAQ; the request goes through the contact form with your order number. Make it before activating the plan, while the automatic activation on arrival has not yet happened.
No. A Ubigi eSIM gives you a standard data connection on the local network: messaging, banking apps, video and VPNs work normally, subject to the visited country's own restrictions.
Yes, and it is the brand's main comfort: once the profile is installed, you add a plan from the Ubigi app without scanning a new QR code, and without needing Wi-Fi or any data credit left.
