Sosh eSIM free or paid? The fees in detail, case by case (2026)
The Sosh eSIM is neither always free nor always paid. It is free in three specific situations, and costs €10 in activation fees in the others. It all depends on what you are doing: subscribing to a new plan, replacing your physical SIM card, or moving an existing eSIM to another phone.
In this 2026 rundown, we answer what the question really raises: the exact fee in every scenario, checked on the carrier's official support pages, the three situations where you pay nothing, which Sosh plans take the eSIM and what they cover, how to retrieve and activate your profile with the QR code, how to transfer your line when you change phones, the separate case of the smartwatch eSIM, and what happens when you leave the European Union.
We finish with the question travellers ask: should you add a travel eSIM alongside your Sosh line, and when is it actually worth it.

Is your device eSIM compatible?
Pick your brand, then your model: instant verdict.
Is the Sosh eSIM free?
The honest answer is: it depends on your situation. The carrier does not charge for the eSIM as such, it charges activation fees, and those fees vary with how you obtain your line.
Three situations cost nothing. Subscribing to a plan while buying a smartphone: activation is free. Subscribing to a Let's Go plan online while signed in to your account: free as well, whereas the same subscription in store or by phone costs €1. And above all, transferring an existing eSIM from one phone to another costs nothing, which settles the phone-upgrade case.
Two situations are billed €10. Subscribing to a plan without buying a smartphone, first. And replacing a physical SIM card with an eSIM on an already active line, second: the most frequent case, and the one people discover at checkout.
Fees checked on 23 August 2026 on the official Sosh support pages. A carrier can change its pricing: check the amount displayed before confirming.
The rat's advice: If you plan to switch to eSIM and you are changing phones soon, do things in this order. Take the eSIM when subscribing with the device, where it is free, rather than converting your SIM later for €10. The transfer to a future phone will then be free.
Which Sosh plans take the eSIM?
All of them. The eSIM is not reserved for one range: it is a line carrier, not a plan option. From the smallest to the biggest, every Sosh offer can be delivered as an eSIM rather than a plastic card.
Here is the line-up checked on 23 August 2026, with what each plan covers outside France, since that is where the gaps widen:
1 GB Capped plan, €1.99/month: 1 capped GB, in France and Europe, with 2 hours of capped calls and unlimited texts.
20 GB plan, €9.99/month: 20 GB in France, and 20 GB from Europe.
100 GB plan, €13.99/month: 100 GB in France, and 40 GB from Europe.
Forfait Voyage 200 GB 5G, €15.99/month: 200 GB in France, and 40 GB from 135 destinations, 77 of them outside Europe.
300 GB 5G plan, €20.99/month: 300 GB in France, and 50 GB from Europe.
Prices and volumes checked on 23 August 2026 on the Sosh store. Calls and texts are unlimited across the range except on the 1 GB Capped plan.
The line to remember is the fourth one. The Forfait Voyage is the only plan in the range with data included outside Europe, and that completely changes the trade-off with a travel eSIM. More on that below.
The special case of the smartwatch eSIM
The eSIM option for smartwatches follows a different pricing grid, and it is often confused with the phone's eSIM. It is billed €10 for activation then €5 per month, since it is an extra line and not a mere change of medium.
A welcome offer exists: for a first subscription, the activation fee and the first three months are free. Beyond that, the monthly subscription runs.
On the hardware side, the list of supported watches is wide. At Apple: Apple Watch Series 3 to 11, plus the Ultra, Ultra 2 and Ultra 3, and the SE, SE 2 and SE 3. From other brands: the Samsung Galaxy Watch in 4G and 5G versions, the Montblanc Summit 2+, the Oppo Watch 4G and the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro 4G. In every case, you need a cellular version of the watch: GPS-only models cannot host a line.
Activation does not go through a QR code but through the companion app: Watch on iPhone, Galaxy Wearable on Samsung. Once the watch is paired, you open the mobile plan section of the app, enter your number and your customer area password, and the line is set up.
In other words, the free cases you find on the phone eSIM do not apply here. They are two distinct products, and the confusion gets expensive if you do not see it coming.
How to get and activate a Sosh eSIM
The principle is the same as at every carrier: you retrieve a QR code, and you scan it with the phone that will host the line.
That code lives in two places. In your customer area, equipment section, or in the MySosh app. And for a new subscription, as an attachment to the welcome email, in a document named "Guide eSIM". If you cannot find it, customer service can regenerate it.
On iPhone, open Settings, Mobile Data, then "Activate mobile plan" or "Add eSIM", and scan the code. On Android, the path goes through Settings, Connections, SIM card manager, then "Add mobile plan". The phone downloads the profile, asks you to name the line, and you are done.
If you would rather watch the operation than read it, the video below shows the full process on the Sosh side:
You will then need to enter a PIN code, set to 0000 or 1234 by default, and restart the phone to personalise it. Plan for a Wi-Fi connection: the profile downloads from the carrier's servers.
Before anything, check that your phone supports eSIM. On the Apple side, compatibility starts at the iPhone XS; on Android, most recent Samsung Galaxy S and Google Pixel models are covered. The universal test is one code: dial *#06#, and if an EID number shows, your device is compatible. The compatibility checker also answers brand by brand.
Changing phones: transferring your Sosh eSIM
That is the most frequent situation after the first activation, and the good news is that it costs nothing from one phone to another. Between tablets, however, a €10 fee applies once.
One precaution before everything else: do not delete the eSIM from your old phone before it has been transferred to the new one. An erased profile cannot be recovered with a click, and you are left without a line while a new one is issued. It is the classic mistake of people prepping their old phone for resale before finishing the move.
The standard method is to generate a new QR code from your customer area or the MySosh app, then scan it with the new phone. The line switches over, the old profile deactivates.
On iPhone, there is a shortcut: since iOS 17.2, you can transfer your line during the new device's setup, keeping both iPhones close to each other. The transfer happens device to device, without going through the carrier or a QR code.
The rat's advice: Do the transfer at home, on Wi-Fi, before wiping the old phone. And check the new line actually completes a call before erasing anything. Two minutes of caution versus a day without a number, the maths is quick.
Your Sosh plan abroad: Europe is included
That is the point many travellers miss before shopping for a solution they may not need to buy. In Europe, the French overseas departments, Switzerland and Andorra, your Sosh plan works like in France: calls, texts and your data allowance are deducted normally, at no extra cost.
The zone covers 59 destinations, the whole European Union plus the United Kingdom, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Andorra, Ukraine, and the overseas departments with Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Réunion and Mayotte.
In practice, for a stay in Lisbon, Rome or Berlin, you have nothing to do and nothing to buy. Your Sosh eSIM is enough, and a travel eSIM would be spending with no upside.
The limit is your abroad allowance, which is not always your French one: 20 GB on the 20 GB plan, but only 40 GB on the 100 GB, and 50 GB on the 300 GB. Beyond that, speed is reduced. For normal use, the plan covers the stay.
Outside Europe, it all depends on your plan
As soon as you leave that zone, United States, Asia, Latin America, North Africa or the Middle East, the answer changes with the offer you subscribed to.
With a classic plan, 20 GB, 100 GB or 300 GB, nothing is included. Data roaming there is billed outside the plan, at rates that bear no relation to what you pay monthly. You then need to add an option for the stay, or plan another solution.
With the Forfait Voyage 200 GB 5G, the situation is different: 40 GB are usable from 77 destinations outside Europe, among them the United States, Canada, Japan, Thailand, China, India, Brazil, Morocco, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa and Australia. For €15.99 per month, that is broad coverage that makes a travel eSIM pointless in those countries.
Watch the ceiling, though. Once the 40 GB are used outside Europe, billing reverts to €13.31 per megabyte, in 10 KB increments. In other words, a gigabyte of overage runs into thousands of euros: at that price level, turning off mobile data is not a precaution, it is a necessity.
The rat's advice: Before buying anything, look at two things first: where you are going, and which plan you have. For Europe, any Sosh plan is enough. For the 77 destinations of the Forfait Voyage, it is enough too. It is outside those two cases that comparing becomes useful.
Do you need a travel eSIM on top of your Sosh plan?
The answer depends on three things: your destination, your data volume and the plan you already have. If your destination is among the Forfait Voyage's 135 and 40 GB is enough, the question does not arise. If you are going elsewhere, or you use more, comparing is almost always worth the detour, as the gap can be large on a long stay.
The other scenario is the classic plan. Adding a travel eSIM alongside your Sosh line keeps your number active for calls and texts, while the second line handles local data at a price known in advance. It works on any compatible phone, and the set-up takes two minutes before departure.
The market has some twenty providers, between Airalo, Holafly, voilà, Saily, Ubigi, Nomad and Yesim. Each has its positioning, between unlimited data, multi-country coverage and price per gigabyte. voilà, for instance, positions itself on value for money, with an eSIM that is easy to install and an easy-to-use app, and human customer support reachable 24/7.
That is exactly the trade-off the comparator settles, with hand-checked prices: the page of compared eSIM carriers and providers gives the overview, destination by destination.
In short: the Sosh eSIM is free if you take it with a phone, on a Let's Go plan online, or to change phones. It costs €10 if you convert an existing physical SIM. And for travel, your plan covers Europe in all cases, the rest of the world only with the Forfait Voyage.
