Our marks, criterion by criterion
Price per GB
4.0Good value on fixed-volume plans: 5 GB over 30 days in France for $6.50 (€5.64), 10 GB for $9.90 (€8.59), 20 GB for $16.90 (€14.66). Prices are listed in dollars; the euro figure is the one the store computes itself at its own rate, rounded to the cent.
Coverage
4.4191 countries in the esimrat catalogue, plus 23 multi-country bundles (Europe in four variants, worldwide in 109 and 137 destinations, Asia, Middle East, Africa, Caribbean, South America, Oceania, Balkans, North America). Two networks in the big countries: Bouygues and Free in France, Verizon and AT&T in the United States, Vodafone and O2 in Germany, up to 5G.
App
3.9ByteSIM app on iOS and Android: data balance, expiry date, supported networks and APN, signing in with the order email. The QR code arrives by email within minutes; activation happens on its own on arrival once data roaming is on.
Support
4.1WhatsApp 24/7 (two Hong Kong numbers shown at the top of the site), email service@bytesim.com, chat assistant on the site. The help centre asks for the order number, location, phone model and screenshots of the network settings to speed things up.
Transparency
3.7Every product page states the network, the speed and the cap: 500 MB to 3 GB a day then 128 kbps on daily plans, HD speed guaranteed on "unlimited" plans even under fair use. Less clear: validity starts at the first connection on site for most products, but at purchase for some, to check on each page.
Flexibility
3.1No top-up: data used up means buying a new eSIM. Transfer to a new phone only exists on some products, through support. On the other hand, up to 180 days to activate, an expired QR code is reissued by support, and eight durations from 1 to 30 days on most destinations.
Technical note
An overview of ByteSIM's performance across 6 criteria
How we score
This score is eSIMrat's own, not an average of customer reviews. It covers six criteria we assess ourselves from the catalogue's real coverage, the prices we record, and test purchases and installs. We earn a commission on sales made through our links: it changes neither the score nor the order of our rankings, which stay sorted by price per GB.
The eSIMrat verdict
ByteSIM is a Hong Kong eSIM store with a very wide catalogue: 191 countries and 23 multi-country bundles on our side, each destination with a full grid (daily plans from 500 MB to 3 GB a day, volumes from 1 to 50 GB, 5G unlimited, 1 to 30 days) and the network names, often two per country. Fixed-volume prices are good (10 GB over 30 days in France for $9.90, or €8.59), WhatsApp support answers 24/7 and the Trustpilot score is 4.8 out of 5 across more than 4,200 reviews. To know: prices are in dollars (the euro is converted by the store at its own rate), daily plans drop to 128 kbps once the day's allowance is used, and there is no top-up, you buy another eSIM.
Good for
- Travellers who want to pick volume and duration precisely (eight durations from 1 to 30 days)
- Stays in the United States, France or Germany with two networks on the same eSIM
- Multi-country trips: Europe 42 to 57 destinations, worldwide 137, Asia-Pacific 15
Less suited if
- You want to pay in euros with no conversion (→ Voye Global)
- You want to top up an eSIM already installed (→ Saily, Esimatic)
- You want excellent value per GB with an eSIM that is simple to install, an easy-to-use app and human support 24/7 (→ voilà eSIM)
Pros and cons
Pros
- 191 countries and 23 multi-country bundles, a full grid on every destination
- Networks named on every page, two carriers in the big countries
- WhatsApp and email support 24/7, 4.8 out of 5 on Trustpilot across 4,200+ reviews
- Full or partial refund for connection problems, no cancellation fee
- Tethering included, no ID except on products with a phone number
Cons
- Prices in dollars; the euro is the store's own conversion at its own rate
- Daily plans throttled to 128 kbps once the day's allowance is used
- No top-up: once the data is gone, you buy a new eSIM
- Transfer to another phone limited to some products, through support

How to install your eSIM with ByteSIM
Buy your plan
Pick the destination, the plan type (daily, fixed volume or unlimited) and the duration, then pay in dollars (the euro shown is converted by the store). The QR code arrives by email within minutes.
Pick your destination
Choose your destination and your data plan.
Scan the QR code
Scan the QR code received by email over Wi-Fi, before departure or on arrival: most products can be installed up to 180 days after purchase, and support reissues an expired QR code.
Get connected
Turn on data roaming on the ByteSIM line: validity starts at the first connection on site (except on a few products billed from purchase, stated on the page). Track the balance in the ByteSIM app with the order email.
If something goes wrong
Check that your phone supports eSIM (iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later) and is carrier-unlocked. Make sure you have a stable Internet connection during the install. If the problem persists, contact ByteSIM support with your order number.
Turn Airplane mode on and off again. Check that the eSIM from ByteSIM is selected for mobile data in your settings. Turn data roaming on. Restart the phone. If nothing changes, switch network selection to manual and pick another operator.
On a daily plan, the day's allowance (500 MB to 3 GB) goes fast on video: past it, speed drops to 128 kbps until the renewal, 24 hours after activation or the order time depending on the product. On an unlimited plan, a temporary slowdown comes from the carrier's fair use and lifts the next day.
The QR code is in the order email; if lost or expired, support (WhatsApp or service@bytesim.com) reissues one. A QR code installs only once: do not delete the eSIM after installing it.

Frequently asked questions
Three families on most destinations: daily (500 MB, 1, 2 or 3 GB a day at full speed, then 128 kbps until the next day), fixed volume ("Total" 3 to 50 GB to use freely over the period) and unlimited, sometimes marked 5G. Each family comes in 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20 and 30 days.
It depends on the plan: most travel eSIMs allow tethering, some cap or exclude it. The plan page on ByteSIM's site states it, so read it before paying.
An eSIM works on most smartphones released after 2019: iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later. Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. Our eSIM-compatible phones page lists the models.
Yes. Most recent smartphones handle a physical SIM (calls, texts, your number) and an eSIM from ByteSIM (mobile data) side by side. You keep your usual number and use the eSIM for the Internet.
ByteSIM refunds in full or in part depending on the situation for connection problems, with no cancellation fee ("money-back guarantee" in its help centre). The request goes through support with the order number, location and screenshots of the network settings.
A travel eSIM gives you ordinary Internet access. Any restrictions (China, Iran) come from the network of the country you visit, and the plan page says so when the provider documents them.
No: a ByteSIM eSIM cannot be topped up. Data gone or validity over, you buy a new eSIM (Silver, Gold and Platinum members get 2, 8 or 15% off every order; a referral is worth $3 on both sides).
