Coverage
4.2149 countries in the esimrat catalogue, plus 12 regional zones (Europe 41 countries, Asia, Latin America, Gulf, Central Asia, worldwide 72). Each plan page names its carriers: in France, Orange and Bouygues, on 4G/5G.
App
3.5No mobile app promoted on the site: purchase, QR code, usage tracking and top-ups go through the account on esim4travel.com ("My eSIM" page). Installation is by QR code or manual entry of the codes.
Support
4.2Online chat 24/7 with human agents, advertised on the site and confirmed by Trustpilot reviews, plus support@esim4travel.com. No phone line.
Transparency
3.7The "unlimited" pass is a daily plan: 3 GB a day at full speed, then reduced to up to 1 Mbps until the next day, and the plan page says so. Prices in dollars only. Refunds limited to incompatible devices, cancelled trips and technical failures, paid within 5 to 7 working days.
Flexibility
4.5From 100 MB for one day to 50 GB over 30 days, daily pass from 3 to 30 days, top-up of the installed eSIM without reinstalling, 90 days after purchase to activate. Validity only starts at the first connection to the network.
Technical note
An overview of eSIM4Travel's performance across 6 criteria
How we score
This score is eSIMrat's own, not an average of customer reviews. It covers six criteria we assess ourselves from the catalogue's real coverage, the prices we record, and test purchases and installs. We earn a commission on sales made through our links: it changes neither the score nor the order of our rankings, which stay sorted by price per GB.
The eSIMrat verdict
eSIM4Travel is the eSIM brand of FreshQ, a Silicon Valley company, and one of the cheapest providers in our comparison: 5 GB over 30 days in France for €3.72, 1 GB over 7 days for €1.08, with carriers named on every plan page and a human chat that answers 24/7. The catalogue covers 149 countries and 12 regional zones on our side. The things to know: prices are in dollars (we convert them at the ECB rate), there is no mobile app, everything goes through the web account, and the "unlimited" pass caps at 3 GB a day before dropping to up to 1 Mbps.
Good for
- Tight budgets: 1 GB over 7 days for €1.08 in France, 500 MB for one day at €0.60
- Travellers who want to know which carrier they will land on before buying
- European tours: the Europe zone covers 41 countries, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine included
Less suited if
- You want to pay in euros, at the displayed price (→ Nomad)
- You want a mobile app to install and track your eSIMs (→ Saily)
- You want excellent value per GB with an eSIM that is simple to install, an easy-to-use app and human support 24/7 (→ voilà eSIM)
- You want unlimited without a 3 GB daily cap (→ Holafly)

- "Unlimited" = 3 GB a day at full speed, then up to 1 Mbps

How to install your eSIM with eSIM4Travel
Buy your plan
Buy on esim4travel.com, in dollars. The QR code and install codes arrive by email and stay available in the "My eSIM" page of your account.
Pick your destination
Choose your destination and your data plan.
Scan the QR code
Pay and scan the QR code to install the eSIM.
Get connected
Install the eSIM before departure: it only activates at the first connection to a supported network on site. On arrival, turn on the eSIM line, select it for mobile data and enable data roaming. You have 90 days after purchase to activate it.
If something goes wrong
Check that airplane mode is off, restart the phone and switch Wi-Fi networks or use another device's hotspot: some public networks block the installation (eSIM4Travel names the Doha airport Wi-Fi). An eSIM installs only once: check it is not already on the phone. Otherwise, the chat answers 24/7.
Turn on data roaming on the eSIM4Travel line: without it, the eSIM does not activate. If there is still no network, manually select one of the carriers named on the plan page, then write to the chat.
Look at per-app usage in your phone's settings to spot the hungry apps. Turn off automatic updates and high-resolution video playback. Your remaining data shows in your eSIM4Travel account, or in its app when there is one.
Open the "My eSIM" page of your account on esim4travel.com: the purchased eSIM shows its QR code and codes there (SM-DP+, activation code). Check your spam folder too. Otherwise, the chat resends it.
What users say
Reviews synthesised from the App Store, Google Play and online feedback. We do not republish reviews word for word: we summarise the trend.
- ★★★★★Trustpilot
Two eSIMs bought for Alaska: the chat agent walked through the whole setup and even offered a discount code.
- ★★★★★Trustpilot
Usage display problem in Turkey, fixed quickly and without fuss by support.
- ★★★★★Trustpilot
Regular customer (Japan, United States): in Hong Kong the eSIM would not connect after three attempts, the chat solved it within minutes.
- ★☆☆☆☆Trustpilot
Easy purchase and install, but the Europe daily pass of the time (1 GB a day) disappointed: repeated speed restrictions once the day's quota was reached.

An eSIM works on most smartphones released after 2019: iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later. Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. Our eSIM-compatible phones page lists the models.
Yes. Most recent smartphones handle a physical SIM (calls, texts, your number) and an eSIM from eSIM4Travel (mobile data) side by side. You keep your usual number and use the eSIM for the Internet.
Only if your device is incompatible, your trip is cancelled or there is a technical failure. The refund returns to the original payment method within 5 to 7 working days. Request through the chat or at support@esim4travel.com.
A travel eSIM gives you ordinary Internet access. Any restrictions (China, Iran) come from the network of the country you visit, and the plan page says so when the provider documents them.
Yes: from the "My eSIM" page, you buy a new plan for the already installed eSIM, without reinstalling it. It starts automatically when the current plan expires; if not, restart the phone. The oldest eSIMs can no longer be topped up and need a new purchase.
