Our marks, criterion by criterion

  • Price per GB

    4.0

Large volumes at good prices: in France, 1 GB for 30 days for $4.00 (€3.48), 10 GB for $9.99 (€8.69), 20 GB for $15.99 (€13.91) and 100 GB for $34.99 (€30.44). Unlimited is more expensive: $15.99 per week in France, $19.00 in the United States. Prices in dollars; the euro displayed by esimrat is converted at the ECB rate.

  • Coverage

    3.5

133 countries in the esimrat catalog, plus 16 multi-country plans (Europe in several variants, Asia, Latin America, Caribbean, North America, Australia and New Zealand, China including Hong Kong and Macao, and worldwide for 365 days). The carrier is named on each sheet: Orange in France and Spain, Vodafone and Wind in Italy, KDDI in Japan, AT&T in the United States, up to 5G.

  • App

    2.8

The QR code arrives via email and the eSIM activates itself upon the first connection on-site. You can check your balance in the customer area on the website, order by order. The app is only available on iOS, where it is rated 2 out of 5 on the App Store (6 ratings in France).

  • Support

    3.6

Support via WhatsApp, phone (Singapore number), and email at support@etravelsim.com, available 24/7 as stated in the FAQ. On Trustpilot, the brand responds to all negative reviews, generally within one week.

  • Transparency

    3.6

Each product page provides the network, speed, data sharing, and fair usage policy: 4 GB per day at high speed, then 1 Mbps on most unlimited plans, or 2 or 3 GB in certain destinations. Less clear: the same destination is sometimes sold on two different product pages at different prices, and refund conditions can only be found in the site's policy.

  • Flexibility

    2.9

Top-up possible in some destinations (Europe, France, Italy, United Kingdom, United States, Turkey, Indonesia, and about twenty others), credited within 15 minutes; elsewhere, via email to support. On the other hand, refunds are limited to 5 days following purchase, with $5 or 30% retained, and a QR code that can only be scanned once.

How we score

This score is eSIMrat's own, not an average of customer reviews. It covers six criteria we assess ourselves from the catalogue's real coverage, the prices we record, and test purchases and installs. We earn a commission on sales made through our links: it changes neither the score nor the order of our rankings, which stay sorted by price per GB.

The eSIMrat verdict

eTravelSim is the eSIM shop of EtravelSim Pte Ltd, based in Singapore: 133 countries and 16 multi-country plans in our catalogue, with the specific operator named on each product page. Its main strength is the price for large data volumes: in France, 10 GB for 30 days for $9.99 (€8.69) and 100 GB for $34.99 (€30.44). Its unlimited plans apply a reasonable usage policy of 4 GB per day followed by 1 Mbps, except for the "Truly Unlimited" range, advertised without throttling across 16 destinations. The Trustpilot rating is 3.9 out of 5 based on 761 reviews. Things to know before buying: prices are in dollars, refunds are only possible within 5 days and after a $5 or 30% deduction, the QR code can only be scanned once, and the app is only available on iOS.

Good for

  • Stays where you want lots of data for a low price (100 GB for 30 days in France for $34.99)
  • Travelers who want unlimited data without throttling on major destinations ("Truly Unlimited" range across 16 destinations)
  • Travelers who want to top up the same eSIM during their stay in Europe, the United States, or Turkey

Less suited if

  • You want to pay in euros without conversion (→ Roamic)
  • You want to be able to get a refund for an unused eSIM at no cost (→ Roamic)
  • You're looking for excellent value per GB with an eSIM that's easy to install, an app that's easy to use, and 24/7 human support (→ voilà eSIM)

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Cheap high volumes: 10 GB for 30 days at $9.99 in France, 100 GB at $34.99
  • Carrier, speed, and fair usage policy written on every product page
  • "Truly Unlimited" range with no advertised speed cap across 16 destinations
  • Online top-up for select destinations, credited in 15 minutes
  • Support via WhatsApp, phone, and email

Cons

  • Prices in dollars; the euro displayed by esimrat is a conversion at the ECB rate
  • Refund limited to 5 days following purchase, with $5 or 30% retained
  • App only on iOS, rated 2 out of 5 on the App Store
  • Narrower catalog than the leaders: 133 countries with us
  • QR code scannable once: a deleted eSIM cannot be reinstalled

How to install your eSIM with eTravelSim

  1. Buy your plan

Choose the destination, then the data volume and duration. Pick the "Data Only" version if you don't need calling minutes: it's cheaper. You pay in dollars and the QR code arrives via email right after purchase.

  2. Pick your destination

Choose your destination and your data plan.

  3. Scan the QR code

Scan the QR code via Wi-Fi, before departure or upon arrival. It only needs to be scanned once: never delete the eSIM once installed, as it cannot be reinstalled.

  4. Get connected

Once on-site, select the eTravelSIM line for mobile data and enable data roaming: validity begins upon the first network connection. You can check your balance in the customer area on the website, using your order email.

If something goes wrong

Check that your phone supports eSIM (iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later) and is carrier-unlocked. Make sure you have a stable Internet connection during the install. If the problem persists, contact eTravelSim support with your order number.

Turn Airplane mode on and off again. Check that the eSIM from eTravelSim is selected for mobile data in your settings. Turn data roaming on. Restart the phone. If nothing changes, switch network selection to manual and pick another operator.

On an unlimited plan, the speed drops to 1 Mbps once the 4 GB daily limit is consumed (2 or 3 GB in some destinations) and resets the next day. For intensive video usage, the "Truly Unlimited" range does not announce this cap, and volume-based plans remain at full speed until the very last GB.

The QR code is in the email sent after purchase; if it doesn't arrive, write to support@etravelsim.com or via WhatsApp with your order number. An eSIM deleted after installation cannot be scanned again: you will need to purchase a new one.

Frequently asked questions

Two families: volume-based, from 1 to 100 GB, mostly for 30 days, and unlimited from 1 to 30 days, with 4 GB per day at high speed followed by 1 Mbps in most destinations. In 16 destinations, the "Truly Unlimited" range is advertised without throttling. Some plans add calling minutes with a British number (+44).

Yes, for data-volume plans. On most unlimited plans, hotspotting is not allowed: each product page specifies this.

An eSIM works on most smartphones released after 2019: iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later. Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. Our eSIM-compatible phones page lists the models.

Yes. Most recent smartphones handle a physical SIM (calls, texts, your number) and an eSIM from eTravelSim (mobile data) side by side. You keep your usual number and use the eSIM for the Internet.

Only within 5 days of purchase, and for three reasons: eSIM never received, a defect that support cannot fix, or a product different from its description. eTravelSim retains $5 or 30% of the order, whichever is higher, and an incompatible phone is not eligible for any refund. The refund can take up to 15 days.

A travel eSIM gives you ordinary Internet access. Any restrictions (China, Iran) come from the network of the country you visit, and the plan page says so when the provider documents them.

Yes, for some destinations: the site sells top-ups for Europe, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Turkey, Indonesia, and about twenty others, added to the already installed eSIM in 15 minutes. Elsewhere, write to support with your order number.
