Best eSIM for Cambodia: which one to choose in 2026?
The Angkor temples at sunrise, the markets and riverside of Phnom Penh, the Koh Rong islands, Kampot pepper and the roads to Battambang: in Cambodia, you get around by tuk-tuk, bus or boat, and you need internet for Google Maps, Grab, PassApp, bookings and WhatsApp. A Cambodia eSIM is installed before you leave, activates when you land in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap, and you keep your regular SIM for your bank's text messages.
The country has three mobile networks, Smart, Cellcard and Metfone, all of which switched to 5G on January 1, 2026, and not all travel eSIMs use the same one. We scrutinized 6 providers using the same criteria: price per GB, network used on-site, coverage from the cities to the provinces, support, how simple the app is, and how flexible the plans are, unlimited included. You will also find out what your usual plan is worth there, how the tourist SIM card works and the mandatory passport registration. The ranking first, then each offer in detail.

voilà eSIM: the cheapest up to 20 GB, on two networks
Plan for plan, voilà eSIM is the cheapest in the comparison from 1 to 20 GB: €1.70 for 1 GB over 7 days, €7.40 for 5 GB and €13.50 for 10 GB over 30 days, which is €1.35/GB at best. It is also the only one to use two networks, Metfone and Cellcard, with no app blocked, unlimited hotspot sharing, installation in two minutes via an easy-to-use app and human support reachable 24/7. Beyond 20 GB or for unlimited data, Airalo does better.
How these eSIMs were ranked
Each eSIM is rated on six criteria, weighted for Cambodia. The price per GB and network coverage carry the most weight. The country has three operators, Smart (Axiata group), Cellcard and Metfone (Viettel group), all of which launched commercial 5G on January 1, 2026, according to the official AKP news agency. For price, we compared the price per GB but also each volume plan by plan, from 1 to 50 GB: a traveler buys a plan, not a gigabyte. The ratings are the editorial team's opinion, not an average of customer reviews, and they follow the criteria without preferential treatment.
- Price per GB25 %
Cost per gigabyte, and the price of each common volume (1, 3, 5, 10, 20 and 50 GB), excluding occasional promotions.
- Network coverage25 %
Get a signal in Phnom Penh, in Siem Reap and at the Angkor temples, on the Kampot and Sihanoukville coast, on the islands and in the provinces.
- Reliability15 %
Connection stability, number of networks, reliability of the partner operator and provider reputation.
- Support15 %
Available channels, schedules, human or automated response.
- Activation and application10 %
Simple installation, clear app, usage tracking.
- Flexible plans10 %
Choice of data volumes and durations, unlimited, top-ups, hotspot sharing.
Based on these criteria, voilà eSIM comes out on top: the cheapest plan in the comparison from 1 to 20 GB, €1.35/GB at best, two networks and 24/7 human support. Airalo is a close second: the lowest price per GB, on a 50 GB plan and the cheapest unlimited plan from 3 to 30 days, on a single network, Smart. Ubigi is third on Metfone, ahead of Esimzon, which is cheaper per GB but limited to 30-day plans in 4G.
Scores are the opinion of the eSIMrat editorial team, based on the criteria above, not customer reviews. eSIMrat earns a commission on links to its partners, which does not affect the ranking.
The ranking of eSIMs for Cambodia
The 6 eSIMs compared, from the best rated to the least rated. The price per GB shown is that of each provider's cheapest plan per gigabyte: a 50 GB plan from Airalo, a 12 GB plan from Esimzon, a 10 GB plan from voilà eSIM and Saily, a 25 GB plan from Ubigi. Yesim's comes from a one-day mini plan. The price per GB does not tell the whole story: on a 10 GB 30-day plan, prices range from €13.50 to €31 depending on the provider.

€1.35/GBMetfone and Cellcard (4G)Data plans, 1 to 20 GB, 7 to 30 daysThe cheapest from 1 to 20 GB, two networks, no blocked apps, 24/7 human support
voilà eSIM is the only one in the comparison to use two Cambodian networks: Metfone and Cellcard, in 4G according to its Cambodia page. If one has poor coverage on an island or in a province, your phone can switch to the other. The brand states that no app is blocked (WhatsApp, TikTok, Google Maps, banking apps), and hotspot sharing is unlimited, handy when traveling as a pair.
In terms of price, it is the cheapest plan at every volume up to 20 GB: €1.70 for 1 GB over 7 days, €4.40 for 3 GB over 15 days, €7.40 for 5 GB, €13.50 for 10 GB and €27.70 for 20 GB over 30 days. The 10 GB plan comes to €1.35/GB, the third-lowest price per GB in the comparison, just cents away from Esimzon. The code ESIMRAT gives 5% off your first order, available on the promo codes page, which further improves the value for money.
The rest follows: the eSIM is installed in two minutes via QR code or from an easy-to-use app, with top-ups and usage tracking in one place. The plan starts when you arrive, the brand announces a refund in case of a technical problem, and human support responds 24/7 on WhatsApp and in the app. Its limitations: no unlimited plan, no plan beyond 20 GB, and no Cambodian number (calls go through WhatsApp, Telegram or FaceTime).

- Two networks, Metfone and Cellcard, no blocked apps, unlimited hotspot sharing
- Easy-to-install eSIM, easy-to-use app, 24/7 human support

Airalo has the lowest price per GB in the comparison: €0.89/GB on the 50 GB 30-day plan, shown at €45 on October 15 (€44.50 in the catalog). It is also the only one to sell a 50 GB plan. Its eSIM uses Smart, the Axiata group operator, which claims more than 8 million subscribers. On small and medium volumes, it costs more than voilà eSIM: €4 for 1 GB over 3 days, €12 for 5 GB and €19.50 for 10 GB over 30 days, which is €6 more than with voilà eSIM.
Its strong point is unlimited data: €11.50 for 3 days, €25 for a week, €45 for 15 days and €67 for a month, the cheapest in the comparison for every duration, ahead of Ubigi and Yesim. Its limitations: a single network, Smart, and chat support in English. The app is complete, with top-ups and usage tracking, and the eSIM must be activated within 90 days of purchase.

4. Esimzon
€1.32/GBMetfone (4G)Data plans from 1 to 18 GB, 30 daysSecond-lowest price per GB, 1 GB for 30 days at $2.60
Esimzon uses Metfone in 4G, a network named on its page. It is second per GB: €1.32/GB on the 12 GB plan at $18, about €16 at the ECB rate of October 14 (€1 to $1.1195). Its 1 GB plan at $2.60 lasts 30 days, whereas those from voilà eSIM and Saily last 7 days.
Its limitations: all its plans last 30 days, with no short option and no unlimited plan, and prices are in dollars: your bank may add conversion fees. For 10 GB, voilà eSIM costs €13.50 on two networks, compared to about €16 for 12 GB with Esimzon on Metfone alone.

Price-wise, it lags behind: €5.49 for 1 GB over 7 days, €9.99 for 3 GB, €13.49 for 5 GB and €21.49 for 10 GB over 30 days, which is €2.15/GB. No unlimited plan for Cambodia, no plan beyond 10 GB, and no Cambodian operator named before purchase.

What sets it apart is daily unlimited data, €7 for 24 hours, useful for a single busy day. For a week (€37) or 15 days (€55), Airalo is cheaper, and the page warns that the operator may reduce speeds under a fair usage policy. No Cambodian operator is named before purchase, and support is via chat.

Which network to choose in Cambodia: Smart, Cellcard or Metfone?
Cambodia has three mobile operators. Smart, a subsidiary of the Malaysian Axiata group, claims more than 8 million subscribers on its website. Metfone belongs to Vietnam's Viettel, and Cellcard is the country's incumbent operator, run by CamGSM. The market is large for a country of 18 million people: DataReportal counts 21.7 million mobile connections in early 2026, and a median mobile speed of 53.58 Mbit/s at the end of 2025 according to Ookla measurements.
5G arrived on January 1, 2026 at all three operators at once, first in Phnom Penh and in key areas of 14 provinces, including Siem Reap, Kampot, Preah Sihanouk, Kandal and Kampong Cham. As for eSIMs, none of the six offers compared guarantees 5G in Cambodia: voilà eSIM uses Metfone and Cellcard, Airalo uses Smart, Ubigi and Esimzon use Metfone, and Saily and Yesim do not name an operator. All the offers are gathered on our Cambodia eSIM comparison.
Does your usual plan work in Cambodia?
Not by default: Cambodia is outside the European Union, and most plans charge for data per MB. With many operators, no data is included in Cambodia even on high-end plans, as one operator's roaming rates page shows: internet costs €9.70 per MB, and a call home €2 per minute. Cambodia is often missing from the lists of included destinations, as our article on countries included in mobile plans explains.
With some operators, a travel-oriented plan at around €25 per month gives 40 GB usable in dozens of destinations, including Cambodia, excluding calls and texts. For other plans, check your operator's travel passes. An eSIM remains cheaper for a trip: 5 GB for 30 days costs €7.40 with voilà eSIM. Before leaving, turn off data roaming on your regular line and let the eSIM handle data.
eSIM or tourist SIM card in Cambodia?
Operators sell tourist SIM cards in their stores and, for some, at the airport. Since September 9, 2025, all Phnom Penh flights arrive at the new Techo International Airport. The SIM is registered in your name: you have to show your passport. The TRC regulator is tightening checks in 2026, with a fine of up to $5,000 for a sale without ID and the goal of eliminating improperly registered SIMs, according to Cambodianess. So buy it at an operator's official counter, never from a street vendor.
The tourist SIM gives you a local number, handy for calling a guesthouse or a driver, and it can work out cheaper on a long, data-hungry stay. Its downsides: queuing at the counter after a long flight, showing your passport, and removing your regular SIM if your phone only has one slot. A travel eSIM, on the other hand, is installed before you leave and works as soon as you land. Our rule: an eSIM for a stay of a few days to three weeks or to be connected on arrival, a tourist SIM for several months on-site.
Rat tip: in Cambodia, the dollar circulates everywhere alongside the riel, and many eSIMs are billed in dollars. Always compare the final price in euros: an $18 plan costs about €16 at the ECB rate of October 14, before your bank's conversion fees, which can wipe out the gap with an offer priced in euros.
What is the coverage in Cambodia, from Phnom Penh to the islands?
Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and the Angkor site, Battambang, Kampot, Kep and Sihanoukville are well covered in 4G by all three networks, and they are also the areas of the first 5G wave. The signal weakens in remote provinces and on some rural roads. That is where an eSIM on two networks, like voilà eSIM on Metfone and Cellcard, increases your chances of getting a signal.
Download your offline maps in Google Maps or Maps.me before a trip to remote temples, such as Beng Mealea or Koh Ker, or a crossing to Koh Rong, and note down your accommodation's address. If you continue on to Vietnam or Thailand, our best eSIM for Vietnam and best eSIM for Thailand comparisons will help you choose what comes next.
What to check before leaving for Cambodia
Two conditions for the eSIM: an eSIM-compatible phone that is carrier-unlocked. iPhones from the XR onwards and Pixel, Galaxy S and other recent models are; the full list is on our eSIM-compatible phones page. Installation takes three steps: you buy the plan, you scan the QR code received by email or install the eSIM from the provider's app, then, on arrival, you turn on data roaming on the eSIM and turn it off on your regular line.
On-site, the ride-hailing apps Grab and PassApp work in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, and they spare you from haggling over a tuk-tuk fare: one more reason to have data as soon as you leave the airport. Count on 1 to 3 GB for a week with Google Maps, Grab and WhatsApp, 10 GB for two to three weeks, and an unlimited plan if you share your connection or watch videos.
