Best eSIM for Oman: which one to choose in 2026?
The alleys of Muscat and the Grand Mosque, the Nizwa souk, the Shab and Bani Khalid wadis, a night under a tent in the Wahiba Sands desert, the villages of Jebel Akhdar, the fjords of Musandam or Salalah during the monsoon: in Oman, almost everything is done by car, and you need internet for Google Maps, reservations, translation, and WhatsApp. An Oman eSIM is installed before departure, activates upon landing in Muscat or Salalah, and you keep your usual SIM for calls and SMS from your bank.
The country has three mobile operators, Omantel, Ooredoo and Vodafone Oman, and some good news is being poorly circulated: WhatsApp calls are working again, without a VPN. We scrutinized 6 providers using the same criteria: price per GB, network used on-site, coverage in the city as well as in the desert, support, simplicity of the app, and the flexibility of the plans, including unlimited options. You will also find how your usual plan compares, the local SIM card, and entry formalities. The ranking first, then each offer in detail.

voilà eSIM: the Omantel 5G network, 1 GB for €3
The Omantel network, ranked first in Oman for coverage and 5G coverage in the latest Opensignal report, a small 1 GB plan for 7 days at €3 for a layover or a city break in Muscat, "no restrictions" on WhatsApp, Google Maps, or banking apps, a two-minute installation from an easy-to-use app, and human support available 24/7. Regarding the price per GB, however, it only ranks fifth, at €2.05/GB: Esimzon, Airalo, Saily, and Yesim are cheaper for larger volumes.
How these eSIMs were ranked
Each eSIM is rated on six criteria, weighted for Oman. The price per GB and network coverage carry the most weight. The country has three mobile networks: Omantel, the incumbent operator, Ooredoo, and Vodafone Oman, launched in January 2022 as the third operator. In the January 2026 Opensignal report, measured from October 1st to December 29th, 2025, Omantel wins for coverage experience, 5G coverage, and 5G throughput; Ooredoo for reliability and download speed; and Vodafone for upload speed. Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa, and Salalah are well-covered; the signal weakens in the heart of the Wahiba Sands and in remote mountains. For a road trip, the reported network is therefore as important as the price. The ratings are the editorial team's opinion, not an average of customer reviews.
- Price per GB25 %
Cost per gigabyte based on the cheapest plan from each provider, excluding occasional promotions.
- Network coverage25 %
Get coverage in Muscat, on desert roads, in wadis, in Jebel Akhdar, and in Dhofar.
- Reliability15 %
Connection stability, reliability of the partner operator, and provider reputation.
- Support15 %
Available channels, opening hours, human or automated response.
- Activation and application10 %
Simplicity of installation, clarity of the app, usage tracking.
- Flexible plans10 %
Choice of data volumes and durations, unlimited, top-ups, data sharing.
Based on these criteria, voilà eSIM comes out on top thanks to the Omantel 5G network, its small €3 plan, a simple app, and 24/7 human support, despite a price per GB of €2.05/GB that places it fifth out of six. Yesim takes second place with two announced networks and the cheapest unlimited option starting from one week. Esimzon is third: the lowest price per GB, but on Vodafone Oman, which is less prevalent than the other two networks outside of cities.
Scores are the opinion of the eSIMrat editorial team, based on the criteria above, not customer reviews. eSIMrat earns a commission on links to its partners, which does not affect the ranking.
The eSIM ranking for Oman
The 6 eSIMs compared, from the highest rated to the lowest rated. The price per GB shown is that of the cheapest plan per gigabyte for each provider: a 50 GB 30-day plan with voilà eSIM, a 30 GB plan with Esimzon, a 20 GB plan with Airalo, Saily and Yesim, and a 10 GB 7-day plan with Ubigi. In Oman, the gaps are wide: more than €1.20 per GB separates the cheapest from the most expensive.

Every Oman eSIM in detail

1. voilà eSIM
€2.05/GBOmantelData plans, 1 to 50 GB, 7 to 30 daysOmantel 5G network, 1 GB for €3, no blocked apps, 24/7 human support
voilà eSIM uses Omantel, the operator with the best coverage in the country and the best 5G according to Opensignal, a real asset as soon as you leave Muscat for Nizwa, Sur, or the desert road. On its Oman page, the brand announces 4G and 5G depending on the area, states there are "no restrictions" on TikTok, WhatsApp, Google Maps, or banking apps, and tethering is unlimited, which is practical when traveling as a pair with a single plan.
Regarding the price, let's be clear: €2.05/GB on the 50 GB 30-day plan at €102.50, it is the fifth cheapest price per GB out of six, behind Esimzon, Airalo, Saily, and Yesim. Its strength lies in smaller volumes: the 1 GB 7-day plan at €3 is the second cheapest in the comparison after Esimzon, and the 3 GB 15-day plan costs €7.70. Beyond that, 10 GB at €23.60 and 20 GB at €43.40 remain higher than Airalo and Yesim. The code ESIMRAT gives a 5% discount, which can be found on the promo code page, improving the value for money without overturning the ranking per GB.
The rest follows: the eSIM is installed in two minutes via an easy-to-use app, with top-ups and data usage tracking in one place, the brand promises a refund in case of technical issues, and the human support is available 24/7 on WhatsApp and in the app. The limitations: no unlimited data, no Omani phone number (calls go through WhatsApp or FaceTime), and large plans that are expensive per GB.
Pros
- Omantel network, the highest rated for coverage and 5G
- 1 GB for 7 days at €3, no blocked apps, unlimited data sharing
- Simple to install eSIM, easy-to-use app, 24/7 human support
Cons
- Fifth lowest price per GB out of six, 20 GB for €43.40
- No unlimited plans
- 7.5/10

2. Yesim
€1.80/GBOmantel and OoredooData plans from 0.2 to 30 GB, unlimited from 1 to 30 daysTwo announced networks, cheapest unlimited from 7 to 30 days, €28 per week
Yesim is the only one in the comparison to announce two networks, Omantel and Ooredoo, with automatic switching to the strongest signal. On a road trip, it's an insurance policy: if one of the two weakens in a Jebel Shams valley, the other can take over. Its 20 GB for 30 days at €36 comes to €1.80/GB, the fourth lowest price per GB in the comparison.
Its true strength is the unlimited: €28 per week, €43 for 15 days, and €78 per month, the lowest prices in the comparison for these three durations, and a one-day plan for €7 for a layover. It also sells a 0.2 GB mini-plan for one day at €0.45. The limitations: expensive small plans, €5.50 for 1 GB and €11 for 3 GB, a 30 GB plan at €60 which is more expensive per GB than its 20 GB plan, and support via chat only.
Pros
- Omantel and Ooredoo announced, switching to the best signal
- Cheapest unlimited plans for 7, 15 and 30 days, €28 per week
Cons
- Small expensive plans, €5.50 for 1 GB
- Chat support only
- 7.4/10

3. Esimzon
€1.11/GBVodafone OmanData plans from 1 to 50 GB for 30 daysThe lowest price per GB, 1 GB at €1.75, 10 GB at €11.44, 4G and 5G
Esimzon marks the lowest price per GB in the comparison: €1.11/GB on the 30 GB 30-day plan at €33.44. Its entire pricing structure is the cheapest for equal volume, from €1.75 for 1 GB to €11.44 for 10 GB and €23.76 for 20 GB, all valid for 30 days, on 4G and 5G.
Why not first, then? Because it goes through Vodafone Oman, launched in 2022, the youngest of the three networks. It wins in upload speeds according to Opensignal and performs well in the city, but Omantel takes the lead in coverage. For a stay between Muscat, Nizwa, and the coast, the price difference makes it the winner; for a road trip in the desert or in the mountains, a provider on Omantel is preferred. The limitations: no unlimited data, a single network, and support via email or chat, in English.
Pros
- The lowest price per GB in the comparison, 30 GB at €33.44
- The cheapest pricing for the same volume, 1 GB at €1.75, 4G and 5G
Cons
- Vodafone Oman network, less present outside of cities
- No unlimited data, support in English
- 7.3/10

4. Airalo
€1.65/GBOmantelData plans from 1 to 20 GB, unlimited from 3 to 30 daysOmantel network, 20 GB for €33, the only unlimited option for 3 and 5 days
Airalo, the market pioneer, goes through Omantel. Its 20 GB for 15 days at €33 results in €1.65/GB, the second lowest price per GB in the comparison, and the 20 GB for 30 days costs €34.50. Its pricing structure is the most diverse for short durations: 3, 7, 15, or 30 days depending on the volume.
It is the only one to sell unlimited data for 3 and 5 days, at €18.50 and €27, practical for a long weekend in Muscat. Beyond that, Yesim is cheaper: Airalo charges €33 for a week, Yesim €28; a month costs €89.50 at Airalo and €78 at Yesim. The limitations: expensive small plans, €4 for 1 GB for 3 days, only one announced network, and support via chat, in English. Also, watch out for its Oman page, which displays unlimited by default: the GB plans can be found in the other tab.
Pros
- Omantel network, 20 GB for €33 over 15 days
- The only unlimited 3 and 5-day plans, starting from €18.50
Cons
- Small, expensive plans, €4 for 1 GB for 3 days
- Unlimited more expensive than Yesim starting from 7 days, support in English
- 6.5/10

5. Saily
€1.77/GBLocal networksData plans from 1 to 20 GB, 7 to 30 daysAd blocker and tracker blocker, 24/7 chat
Saily is the eSIM from Nord Security, the creators of NordVPN. The app is simple, featuring an ad and tracker blocker as well as built-in web protection, and the chat responds 24/7 in English. On hotel or café Wi-Fi in Muscat, it's a real plus.
Its 20 GB for 30 days at €35.49 amounts to €1.77/GB, a reasonable price per GB, just behind Airalo. The rest of the pricing table is more expensive: €3.99 for 1 GB for 7 days, €9.99 for 3 GB, €21.99 for 10 GB. It does not offer unlimited data for Oman and does not announce the Omani carrier before purchase, which matters more here than elsewhere.
Pros
- Integrated ad and tracker blocker, 24/7 chat
- 20 GB at €35.49 for 30 days
Cons
- Omani operator not specified before purchase
- No unlimited data, 20 GB maximum
- 6.3/10

6. Ubigi
€2.40/GBOmantelData plans from 1 to 10 GB, for 7 or 30 daysOmantel 4G and 5G network, prices in euros, support in French
Ubigi belongs to Transatel, a subsidiary of the NTT group. It uses Omantel for 4G and 5G, displays its prices in euros, allows top-ups via the app without reinstalling a profile, and its support responds via ticket, in French.
In Oman, its selection is limited and expensive: only four plans, €6 for 1 GB for 7 days, €12 for 3 GB for 30 days, €24 for 10 GB for 7 days, which is €2.40/GB, the highest price per GB in the comparison, and €29 for 10 GB for 30 days. Nothing beyond 10 GB and no unlimited options: it is mainly useful for those who have already installed it for another trip.
Pros
- Omantel 4G and 5G network
- Prices in euros, support via ticket in French
Cons
- The highest price per GB in the comparison
- Only four plans, 10 GB maximum, no unlimited data

Can you make WhatsApp calls in Oman in 2026?
Yes. For years, Oman blocked audio and video calls on WhatsApp, FaceTime, and other VoIP apps: only messages would go through. On December 4, 2024, users noticed that WhatsApp calls were working without a VPN, as reported by the Times of Oman. The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has not released any official announcement, but it specified on April 23, 2025, that it "does not directly block" TikTok or WhatsApp, and that these services must go through local operators or through agreements with them.
Several comparisons, including those from eSIM vendors, still claim that calls are "impossible." This is outdated. Still, keep a backup solution: a WhatsApp call can remain unstable depending on the network and location, and since the situation isn't set in stone, it can change. Messages, however, have never been blocked. To find out how much a call consumes, we detail the figures in our article on WhatsApp mobile data consumption.
With a data-only travel eSIM, like those in this comparison, you won't have an Omani phone number: you call via WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Messenger. Your regular SIM stays active alongside to receive your bank's validation codes, but calls made or received on that line will be charged at your operator's roaming rates. For emergencies, dial 9999, the unique number for police, firefighters, and ambulances; 112 is redirected there.
Does your usual plan work in Oman?
Rarely without extra costs. Oman is outside the European Union, so it is outside of roaming at European national prices. Some high-end plans include Oman in a list of destinations, but most operators charge for it as roaming or offer it as a travel pass to be purchased separately: check your customer area to see what your plan covers and at what price.
Without a pass, the data consumed in Oman will be charged at your operator's out-of-bundle rates. Before leaving, turn off data roaming on your regular line, but keep it active for calls and SMS if you need them. An Oman eSIM then handles the data: starting from €3 for 1 GB at voilà eSIM, and €1.75 at Esimzon.
eSIM or local SIM card in Oman?
A local SIM card is purchased upon arrival: Omantel sells a Tourist Pack reserved for non-Omani passports at Muscat and Salalah airport counters and in its shops, including data, local minutes, and short-term validity. Ooredoo and Vodafone Oman also have prepaid offers. The line is registered to your passport, at a shop or at the counter.
The advantage of a local SIM: an Omani number, useful for calling a guide, a desert camp, or a 4x4 rental agency. Its downsides: queuing at the counter after an overnight flight, registration, and a physical SIM that forces you to remove your usual SIM if your phone only has one slot. A travel eSIM, on the other hand, is installed before departure and works as soon as the plane touches the tarmac. Our rule: eSIM for a stay of a few days to three weeks, local SIM for a stay of several months or if a local number is indispensable to you.
What is the coverage in Oman, from the desert to the mountains?
In cities and on major highways, 4G is everywhere and 5G covers Muscat and the main cities. It is outside the cities that the choice of network matters: Omantel wins in coverage and 5G coverage in the January 2026 Opensignal report, while Ooredoo wins in reliability. voilà eSIM, Airalo and Ubigi use Omantel, Yesim uses Omantel and Ooredoo, and Esimzon uses Vodafone Oman.
In the heart of the Wahiba Sands desert and in remote mountains, such as the Jebel Shams gorges or the bottom of certain wadis, the signal weakens regardless of the provider: download your offline maps in Google Maps or Maps.me before leaving, and inform your camp of your arrival time. For Salalah and Dhofar, keep the khareef in mind, the monsoon season from June to September: it's peak season there, so install your eSIM before your flight rather than searching for a SIM at the airport counter.
Special case, Musandam: the Khasab peninsula is an enclave separated from the rest of the country by the United Arab Emirates. If you go there by road from Dubai, your Oman eSIM will not work during the crossing of the Emirates: get a plan that covers both countries, or check our best Dubai eSIM comparison.
What to check before leaving for Oman
Two conditions for the eSIM: an eSIM compatible phone and an unlocked phone. iPhones since the XR and Pixel, Galaxy S, and other recent models are; the complete list is on our eSIM compatible phones page. Installation is done in three steps: you purchase the plan, you scan the QR code received by email or install the eSIM from the provider's app, then, upon arrival, you activate data roaming on the eSIM and turn it off on your regular line.
Regarding formalities, depending on your nationality, a visa may be issued free of charge upon arrival for a short stay: this is the case for French citizens, according to the travel advice from France Diplomatie, for a maximum of 14 days. Check your country's rules with the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the date of departure, and each day of overstay costs a 10 rial fine. All plans are gathered on our Oman eSIM comparator, and if you are heading to Saudi Arabia next, our best Saudi Arabia eSIM comparison awaits you.
