Our marks, criterion by criterion
Price per GB
3.9Low prices in euros on common plans: in France, 1 GB for 7 days for 3.00 €, 10 GB for 30 days for 12.00 €, and 50 GB for 30.00 €; in Japan, 10 GB for 30 days for 14.00 €. Japanese unlimited costs 20.00 € per week and 78.00 € per month.
Coverage
4.0191 countries in the esimrat catalog, plus 10 multi-country plans: Europe+ covering 36 countries, Caribbean covering 28, Asia, Africa, Balkans, Middle East, South America, North America and East Asia. ChillSim does not name the operator used in each country.
App
3.5The QR code arrives via email after purchase, and the ChillSim app (iOS and Android) installs the eSIM in just a few taps from "My eSIM." It is also used to track usage and top up. On the French App Store, it does not have any ratings yet.
Support
3.8Support announced 24/7, via WhatsApp (Romanian number) and via email through the contact form. On Trustpilot, ChillSim is rated 4.7 out of 5 based on 83 reviews and responds to published reviews.
Transparency
3.0Prices include VAT in euros, no payment fees, and validity that only starts upon the first connection. Less clear: no product sheet specifies the local network used, and data speeds are only provided in general terms (“4G/5G”).
Flexibility
3.1Recharge the same eSIM from the app or the website at any time during your stay, with an optional automatic top-up. However, refunds are only provided if the eSIM fails to activate due to a technical issue on their end.
Technical note
An overview of ChillSim's performance across 6 criteria
How we score
This score is eSIMrat's own, not an average of customer reviews. It covers six criteria we assess ourselves from the catalogue's real coverage, the prices we record, and test purchases and installs. We earn a commission on sales made through our links: it changes neither the score nor the order of our rankings, which stay sorted by price per GB.
The eSIMrat verdict
ChillSim is the eSIM brand of Zenminutes, a Romanian company: 191 countries and 10 multi-country plans available with us, all in euros. Its strength lies in the pricing for small and medium data volumes: in France, 1 GB for 7 days for 3.00 € and 10 GB for 30 days for 12.00 €. The iOS and Android app installs the eSIM and manages top-ups, and support responds 24/7 via WhatsApp. Its limitations: the carrier is never named, and a purchased plan is only refunded in the event of a technical failure on their end.
Good for
- Short stays where you want a few GBs for cheap (1 GB for 7 days at 3.00 € in France)
- Travelers who want to pay in euros, taxes included, without conversion
- Road trips through multiple European countries, with the Europe+ plan covering 36 countries
Less suited if
- You want to know which local operator you will be using before buying (→ eTravelSim)
- You want to be able to get a refund for an unused eSIM (→ eSIMPal)
- You are looking for excellent value for money with an eSIM that is easy to install, an app that is easy to use, and 24/7 human support (→ voilà eSIM)
Pros and cons

- iOS and Android app to install the eSIM, track usage, and top up

Cons
- Local operator never named on the fact sheets
- Refund limited to eSIMs that do not activate due to a technical issue on their end

How to install your eSIM with ChillSim
Buy your plan
Choose your destination on the website or in the app, then select the data volume and duration. You pay in euros, including taxes, by credit card, and the QR code arrives via email right after purchase.
Pick your destination
Choose your destination and your data plan.
Scan the QR code
Install the eSIM via Wi-Fi before departure: via the ChillSim app (My eSIM, Current plans, Install) or by scanning the QR code from the email in your phone's eSIM settings.
Get connected
Once on-site, choose the ChillSim line for mobile data and enable data roaming: validity begins upon the first connection to the network. You can track your usage in the app.
If something goes wrong
Check that your phone supports eSIM (iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later) and is carrier-unlocked. Make sure you have a stable Internet connection during the install. If the problem persists, contact ChillSim support with your order number.
Turn Airplane mode on and off again. Check that the eSIM from ChillSim is selected for mobile data in your settings. Turn data roaming on. Restart the phone. If nothing changes, switch network selection to manual and pick another operator.
Look at per-app usage in your phone's settings to spot the hungry apps. Turn off automatic updates and high-resolution video playback. Your remaining data shows in your ChillSim account, or in its app when there is one.
The QR code is in the email sent after purchase, and the eSIM can also be found in the app, under the My eSIM section, using the same account. If it doesn't arrive, write to support on WhatsApp or via the contact form, including your order email.

An eSIM works on most smartphones released after 2019: iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later. Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. Our eSIM-compatible phones page lists the models.
Yes. Most recent smartphones handle a physical SIM (calls, texts, your number) and an eSIM from ChillSim (mobile data) side by side. You keep your usual number and use the eSIM for the Internet.
Only if the eSIM cannot be activated due to a proven technical issue on ChillSim's side or its partner operator: you will then receive a refund or a plan change. A plan paid for with a gift card or a voucher is not refundable.
A travel eSIM gives you ordinary Internet access. Any restrictions (China, Iran) come from the network of the country you visit, and the plan page says so when the provider documents them.
Yes: the app and the website offer top-ups for the already installed eSIM at any time during your stay, and an automatic top-up can be activated when your plan runs out.
